Mike’s Ice Cream is, without a doubt, a Hood River staple. They are open every spring/summer from April-October and there’s almost always a line outside. Once inside their little ice cream shack, you are faced with some very tough decisions: size, cone, flavor, milkshake? But, don’t worry, you can’t go wrong. I am a fan of the Baby Scoop on a sugar cone. I love the Coconut (although they don’t always have this flavor), French Roast, Raspberry Cheesecake, and their sorbets. My husband likes the Single Scoop (pretty big) on a waffle cone. He’s all about the Chocolate, Galaxy, French Roast, and/or Pralines and Cream. Everything here is for real, no artificial flavors allowed. They have fantastic outdoor seating and a fun play structure for kids. If it’s too crowded, you can simply take your ice cream across the street to the park behind the library, enjoy your cone, shake, or sundae and people watch. Then you can go back for seconds. Seriously. I ate ice cream almost every day the first summer we lived here. It’s amazing. Mike’s Ice Cream is an absolute must! They are open late too. It’s the perfect late evening snack on a hot summer night.
