The Hood River Valley is truly a cornucopia of agriculture. I love visiting working farms with my family and picking pears/apples/blueberries/cherries/apricots/pumpkins, playing with animals, chatting with farmers, and showing my girls where food comes from. One of our favorite farms to visit, especially in fall, is Mt View Orchards in Parkdale.
We visited Mt View Orchards last month on one of their event weekends. The orchard lives up to its name with a colossal view of Mt. Hood. After selecting our pumpkin from the field we walked down thru rows and rows of apples and pears (they have over 125 varieties!) to the barn. There we hand fed pigs and the gem of the farm, Carlos the steer.
Next up was picking some apples and going for a tractor hay ride around the property. We concluded the visit with a trip to their farm store where we bought apple cider doughnuts and apple cider, and then enjoyed a little picnic in the sun. Now that’s my idea of a perfect fall Saturday.
