When I heard that White Salmon Baking Company was doing a weekly pizza night I have to be honest, my first thought was, do we really need more pizza? However, seeing as I absolutely love the bakery’s pastries and breads (all of which are cooked in a wood-fired oven) I figured I better go and check it out with my family. Although we went early, the place was hopping! Apparently others had already discovered what I had not, that the White Salmon Baking Company makes shockingly good pizza.
While the pies are the star, don’t miss the starters. We had the prosciutto stuffed calamari and charred beets and devoured them in no time. For pizza we chose the house-made sausage, olive, and roasted onion, and another with mushroom, onion, and gorgonzola. After a few exclamations about how fantastic the pizza was, we quickly ordered a third one, the butternut squash, kale, and goat cheese. Mmmmmmm….this is my kind of pizza heaven, thin, chewy crust, creative toppings, and a few black charred spots from the oven.
Since the bakery is only open one night for pizza (Mondays 5-9pm), the whole affair felt really special. I love that the oven is in the front of the bakery so you can watch your pizza being made and marvel at the giant oven. I’ll definitely go back again soon. Wanna join me?
